Saved by the grace of God and commanded by Jesus our Savior and the Lord, we gratefully reach out to our 8000+ international neighbors on the UW-Madison campus, regardless of their ethnicities and differing cultures, especially to new students, visiting scholars and their families. We serve them where they and as they are. We show them the true reality about the world and themselves. We witness to them the unfathomable love of God in Jesus, crucified in their place for them, despite the ugly reality. We witness to them a new life of everlasting joy, peace and hope, born of the Holy Spirit, and an abundant life from following and living in Jesus. We baptize them in the name of triune God and catechize them in the Word of God so that they'll also know what we know about Jesus and receive what we receive from Jesus. We pray for them that they'll grow in Jesus and also gratefully reach out to their neighbors with His truth and love.
My journey brought me from China to the U.S., from Peking University to the University of Minnesota. It was there, while humbled by my PhD research in theoretical physics, that God reached out to me with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through His unfathomable love, He converted me from an atheist to a believer, bringing me from death in sin to life in Christ (John 3:16).
God has transformed my purpose, creating me to be a cross-cultural bridge and calling me to live for Him. He has given me a heart for the needy and the lost, training me in His Word and the Lutheran confessions. Now, He has installed me as a missionary for the South Wisconsin District (SWD) to serve international students and visiting scholars.
This mission is deeply personal. Thirty-eight years ago, as an international student in Minnesota, someone reached out to me with the love of Jesus. Today, God has given me the privilege of doing the same for the international community here in Madison.
